Conventional is a good fallback position isn’t it?

It sure is! Not only is conventional a good fallback position but its just plain boring. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that individuals with great names behind them didn’t exactly accomplish what they have being conventional, if anything they stood out from the crowd.

Take for instance the first woman to fly a plane Amelia Earhart, not only was she an intelligent courageous woman but was probably at some stage one big fat joke around the table! The thought of a woman flying a ‘man-made’ plane was absurd! Yet she did it, she became the
first person to fly the Atlantic twice, first woman to fly the Atlantic solo, she held a speed record for 100 km (and with 500 lb (230 kg) cargo, first woman to fly auto gyro , there about fifteen more achievements to go but for the most part you get the picture…  All of this she did because being different was all there was to her.

Another one would be the story of Walt Disney who was fired from his first job because he was told he was not creative enough and lacked imagination (fools!). So many times he tried to set up his own business with much failure and bankruptcy, yet the only thing that kept him going was his dream. Today Walt Disney is worth billions caused be refused to not being different. Charlie Chaplin came from a broken family with an alcoholic dad and mom with shattered dreams, yet with his odd humor tactics made history in the comedy industry, one cannot think of the history of cinema without Charlie Chaplin popping in mind, a true legend he is. His ultimate goal: to be different.
The moral of the story is not to not fear being unconventional, or better said:  Rather be a rebel with a cause rather than be a herd boy’s pet! Simply Put.
