“Rock journalism is people who can’t write interviewing people who can’t talk for people who can’t read” (Frank Zappa)

I had to read this title atleast three to four times before I figured out what Mr Zappa was trying to say. Seriously! There I was thinking which drug(s) this guy took before announcing such a statement. Once I got the true meaning behind what he was saying (or trying to say!) I realized there was more to it then what was at surface.

Basically Frank Zappa in this statement points out that music is not segmented for a certain audience i.e. literate, people from different walks of life and background can enjoy pretty much any type of music. Rock music has always been associated with being crude, dark, ‘trailer’ music and pretty much unpleasant, a genre that only ‘bums’ and ‘losers’ listen to.

But once the so called ‘bums’ listened to it, it gave them meaning, a sense of belonging and relation. Yet these very same people could not be accepted in society or given the deserved human respect entitled to us all. And what Mr. Zappa also points out is although rock n roll gives purpose and meaning to individuals, but it can never be their voice in society. That’s it, Simply Put!
