 Well she was more in navy and very dull! Yes, last week I went for my driving license test for the first time ever and I unfortunately failed. Not because I’m a reckless ‘yet to be official driver’ but because before I even set foot for my test I had a ‘feeling’ I was faced for a not so good result.

My test was in the Traffic department in Khayelitsha which is notorious  for setting up ‘treasure  licenses’ you basically give your driving school instructor R2000 rand and there you have it:  a brand new license to hit the road. By the time I got to the driving test I was   greeted with a not so pleasant look, anger  and an aura of negativity as I was the stupid girl who did not bribe anyone for a piece of precious plastic, and never in a million years was I going to. My nerves and unfriendliness of the Traffic Officer took the best of me and I FAILED.

Nonetheless was not discouraged, I’ll make another appointment this week at a totally different Traffic Department! And hopefully after my test I’ll be all smiles this time around…                                                                                                                                                                                

                        

Andy Warhol: “In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes.” You can’t choose the 15 minutes but why would you be world famous?

For one, when I unfold this statement I can’t help but think of social media. Anything posted online is immediate and as we’re aware of social media is pretty much global and accessible anywhere, anytime. A typical ’15 minutes of fame’ story would be that of Jason Russell who was the face and ambassador of the Stop Kony 2012 Campaign.

Here was a guy who believed through spreading on the word and brining awareness on the horrific and abusive killing of children in East and Central Africa countries at the hand of a bad man named Kony and his floozies. These poor kids were given ammunition and trained to be killing machines. Surely the Stop Kony Viral Campaign (video) was a success in terms of exposure  and getting the word out there yet only a few weeks later the director of the project Jason Russell went all koo koo and bonkers as he couldn’t handle the fame! And there went his 15 minutes of shine. 

What is all comes down to is faces and people not known to the world as we know it will have a name, voice and identity and yes ‘Their 15 minutes in the lime light’.

Save me a seat please

This was probably a line used by one of many people who issued tickets to watch the 2012 London Olympics months earlier, yet embarrassingly enough the first two days saw many venues with none vacant seats. So my whole thing is what was the real deal behind the selling of these tickets? Were they too expensive considering the Global crisis Europe and the rest of the world were hit by or were the games poorly publicized?

Either way it was a hit in the face for the organisers and waste of resources for sponsors.The worse part was when they got soldiers to fill in the empty seats, seriously! And the latest is the reselling of the tickets probably at a cheaper price. Honestly speaking, I haven’t watched a thing since the opening of the games and frankly at this point do not think I’m any much like to. Some things are just left unsupported!

A skill set called leadership

Some of us believe that one is   born a leader while others argue that leadership is a skill that can be learned in time through experience. Taking it to another level, is the belief that people born under a certain star sign are believed to posses leadership skills i.e. Leos or individuals born predominately in the month August. My take on these arguments is for one, we are all born with a destiny that much is true.

A part of us reminds us that we were created for better, for greatness and success despite our circumstances. We are leaders of our own destiny. Then comes being a leader through experience, our family situations and background play a role and molding us to accumulate leadership skills or not. At times one will finds that certain individuals were ‘forced’ into responsibility and leadership at an early age i.e. through family structures or experiences, through being the ‘popular girl/boy at school, social status  etc…..

Our childhood plays a crucial role in building us into who were desire to be in future. Then there is the horoscope/ star sign debate. While there are traits that can be traced to people born at a certain time or under a certain sign, at the end of the day we can never judge an individual in accordance to their astrological sign. And as much as I have an interest in astrology, I try not to do this myself.

To conclude: Leadership is a skill that can be learnt just like any other, one just needs to have self belief, control and most importantly a true leader is a responsible leader. We all have it within us.

Why God Why?

I remember yesterday morning all ready to go for yet another great church service when my bag buckle pierced a nasty hole in my beautiful knit. And the first words which were uttered from my mouth were: ‘Why God Why?’ here I was asking God why he basically messed up my top, the audacity and cheek I have!

But then again I’m not alone, many of us do it all the time. When things go wrong we always blame God, or in most instances anyway… but the truth is bad experiences are part of life itself. And even more true is the presence of God in all that we experience, whether pleasurable or not. All God wants to do is protect us, love and guide us.

The latter is hard to take in when we find ourselves in sticky situations, naturally speaking . Blaming God for most of my misfortunes is a habit I still need to break, but I know in the end it will definitely be worth Happy 94th Birthday Tata Madiba

This marks a special day in differentiating between ‘real bloggers’ and those who blog for the sake of being part of the crowd. As any authentic, enthusiastic blogger would not miss this great opportunity in wishing one of the greatest men would’ve ever set foot on this earth a much blessed birthday. Yes, today is International Mandela Day. It’s our first democratic President Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela’s 94^th birthday.

Madiba is so great that his birthday is celebrated globally (talk about leaving a legacy!). Yet the respect and dignity attached to his name did not come easy. For twenty-seven years of his life Mandela was imprisoned at Robben Island leaving his former wife Winnie and children, all in the name democracy and freedom. Freedom that one day all South Africans will live in peace and harmony regardless of race, age, sex, social stature etc…. 

And sure we still have quite a way to go in experiencing ‘true democracy’, but looking back South Africa has come a long way. Today I proudly hold my head up high, shoulders up and pronounce that I am gratefully and gracefully proud to be a citizen of South Africa. Thanks to you, Happy Birthday Tata MadibaJ.

Wednesday the 11th

Yep, today is Friday the thirteen yet not much ‘bad luck’ has occurred today (well nothing out of the ordinary to say the least!). Wednesday might as well been Friday the 13^th as I lost my baby, my Blackberry Bold.

Actually I didn’t lose it, it was stolen from me but to cut a long story short I’m without a Smartphone. Which means I’m limited to only two tweets a day, I can only text, receive and make out calls as my current phone’s value is no more than two-hundred bucks!

It’s been a miserable two days with plus minus three more weeks to go before I’m ‘start again’, I think so highly of myself… Happy Times (NOT).

And since my misfortune I’ve come to conclude two things: Smart phones are a true asset and the second is that whole mumbo jumbo about people having bad luck on ‘Friday the 13^th’ is just a sick myth or superstition. You believe it, you attract it, it comes your reality. Simply Put! Happy Friday the 13^th Everyone… ;)
